Central City Elementary School is searching for its next school counselor

The school counselor will be a certified mental health professional supporting all K-5 students in their social/emotional, academic and career development. Through a comprehensive school counseling program, this person will provide data-informed, universal and targeted learning experiences to develop the whole child in a diverse society. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities of the School Counselor:

At the core, our school counselor will provide direct and indirect student services in support of students’ academic, career and social/emotional development. There will be a maintained focus on students’ developmental levels and short and long-term goals and provide services accordingly. The CCES school counselor will also serve as a leader who advocates on behalf of their students within our school and share in the creation of a positive learning environment. To ensure their effectiveness, the CCES school counselor will continuously engage in a cycle of improvement in which they adjust their professional learning and practices according to an informed analysis of available data. This person must possess a wide body of knowledge and specific personal and professional competencies. 

 

With the adoption of the Kentucky Framework of Best Practices for School Counselors along with the Kentucky Standards of Preparation for School Counselors and the alignment to the American School Counseling Association’s (ASCA) National Model, the school counselor has clearly defined expectations, knowledge and skill sets, and competencies of an effective school program. The Kentucky Framework of Best Practices for School Counselors, the Kentucky Standards of Preparation for School Counselors and alignment to the ASCA National Model will be used to determine best practices for our school counselor’s program and offer a core set of expectations. The CCES school counselor will offer students access to the kinds of high-quality direct and indirect student services described throughout this document, which will support students’ academic, career and social/emotional development. 

 

The school counselor will be a major contributor to the school’s administration team in all areas concerning student success and well-being.
